Lt. VanLente oversees the Patrol Division at the Flint Township Police Department which includes the patrol sergeants and patrol officers.  In addition to those daily functions, he is the commander for the Incident Response Team and the project director for a multi-agency grant through the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning (OHSP).

Lt. VanLente started his career as a Paramedic in 2005 after earning his Associates Degree in emergency medicine.  He worked in Grand Rapids and the Detroit area until attending the Police Academy.  He began working for the Flint Township Police Department in 2011 where he spent time as a Patrol Officer, Flint Area Narcotics Officer (FANG), field training officer and member of the Incident Response Team.  He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2008 where he began supervising road patrol Officers and the field training program.
