Mission Statement

The mission of this department is for every member of this agency to consistently seek and find ways to affirmatively promote, preserve and deliver a feeling of  security, safety and quality services to members of our community. 

We, as a team, will accomplish this by CARING and SERVING with INTEGRITY, KNOWLEDGE and COURAGE.

Central to our mission are the values listed below that guide our work and our decisions and help us to contribute to the positive quality of life in our community.

We have integrity.  We serve the community with the highest ethical standards.  We are guided by honesty, in our relations with all persons.  We take pride in all that we do.

We care.  We listen compassionately and act with respect, sincerity, and courtesy when interacting with each other and members of the community.  We are firm in our conviction in upholding the laws, while treating others as we would want to be treated.

We serve.  It is our intention to provide high quality, cost effective Law Enforcement services based upon the needs of the community.

We value our community.  Its people, its businesses, its interests, its perception, its safety.  We will strive to provide a quality positive atmosphere conducive to learning, living, fellowship and freedom.

We believe in Justice and the principles embodied in our State and Federal Constitution and in the authority of federal, state, and local laws.

DEPARTMENT PHILOSOPHY

The philosophy of the department is reflected in the Mission statement, Values statement and the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics.  It is also reflected in our belief in ourselves, in creativity, in decision making, and in problem solving.  We are capable and caring people who are doing important and satisfying work for the citizens of our community.

We are creative.  The Charter Township of Flint Police Department supports the use of creativity and ingenuity in its day-to-day operations.  New and creative solutions to “everyday” problems are important to organizational growth and development and for improved service for our citizens.  Innovation and reasonable risk-taking are supported and encouraged in efforts towards the achievement of organizational goals.

We are decision makers.  Our decisions will be based on our values and how best to accomplish our mission.  Decision making should be at the lowest appropriate level with individual department member willing to accept personal responsibility and organizational accountability for their decisions.

We are problem solvers.  This organization believes that the major focus of police work in a modern society is the solution of problems.  The ability to identify, analyze and solve problems is a highly prized professional attribute and is of exceptional value to our clients - the citizens.

CONCLUSION

Our Mission Statement, Values Statement and the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics are the values that guide our work and our decisions, and that help us to contribute to the positive quality of life in the Charter Township of Flint.

Our mission and value statements are a commitment to the quality performance expected from all members of the department.  They provide the foundation upon which all operational decisions and organizational directives will be based.

Department members are expected to perform consistently, efficiently, effectively, professionally, and competently in the daily duties, job responsibilities, and work tasks assigned by the supervisory and command staff of this department.  Each member is expected to accept the responsibility and accountability for the achievement of our mission, dedication to our values and to diligently work each and deveryday to provide quality service to our citizens and visitors.

Our community view us as their NEIGHBORHOOD POLICE and expects us to adhere to our stated values and mission.  Serve them with caring, courtesy, courage and commitment.

This is OUR statement of Mission and Values.  I know that we are all committed to this community, this command and its mission and to professionalism in Law Enforcement.  Together we will positively impact upon the future of Law Enforcement and leave a lasting legacy for our community.
